We arrived at Theodore Roosevelt National Park Monday afternoon. I-96 passes right through the park.

We secured a site in the South Unit (there are 2 units separated by about 60 miles) inside the park at Cottonwood Campground. As with most national parks, there were no utilities. But it was a pretty site.

As was the campground. As you can see, the sites were spaced well apart.

The campground was on the Little Missouri River.

We then went exploring. This area is known as the North Dakota Badlands, similar to the more famous Badlands National Park in South Dakota.

We parked and walked around a bit.

I-96 in the distance.

Back in the motor home, we found some wild horses in a field of gopher holes.

Driving some more…

We found a herd of bison.

We also stopped to see the log cabin Theodore Roosevelt built and stayed in while living there for several years.

After that it was just drive, drive, drive.

Exhausted, we returned to our site. It was really really hot by this time. Did I mention we didn’t have any hook-ups? We gave in and ran the generator for an hour or so, to cool the motor home off. Then we crashed.
